Toothpowder
11 articlesWhat are the benefits of toothpowder compared to toothpaste?
teethlovers organic toothpowder is a water-free tooth cleaner made of 100% active ingredients, all of which serve direct oral and dental care. Studies have shown that toothpowder removes plaque significantly more effectively than toothpaste.*
Compared to conventional toothpaste, toothpowder can do without up to 80% of the additives that are only needed to make a paste – such as glycerine, water, foaming agents, preservatives, emulsifiers and stabilisers. We also deliberately avoid controversial substances such as fluoride, sodium lauryl sulphate or synthetic flavours and fragrances. Our comprehensive yet simple formula supports gentle tooth cleaning, effective remineralisation and protection against tooth decay. teethlovers organic toothpowder is good for people and the planet!
Is toothpowder more expensive? At 0.3 g per brushing, brushing your teeth costs you:
- approx. 4 cents with the storage jar (135 g, €19.95)
- less than 4 cents with the refill bag (120 g, €14.95)
- less than 3 cents if you fill up your own jar at a zero-waste shop
For comparison: you use about 0.9–1 g of toothpaste per brushing. With a €4 tube, one brushing also costs around 4 cents.

How do I use it?
Press your dry toothbrush into the powder. Brush your teeth. Super easy! 😁
Prefer a wet toothbrush? Then shake off the water well and only press slightly damp bristles into the powder. No water should drip into the jar.
Electric or sonic toothbrush? Works just as well. Since the brush head is smaller, simply press the dry bristles a little more firmly into the powder so that the recommended amount of about 0.3 g sticks to them.
Do I need to rinse afterwards? No. If you have a lot of plaque or food residue, you can rinse briefly. Otherwise you can easily skip rinsing, as the remineralising, anti-caries and caring ingredients can then keep working for longer. (With conventional toothpaste, however, you should always rinse, as it often contains additives such as parabens, foaming agents or titanium dioxide that shouldn't stay in your mouth.)
Isn't that unhygienic? When used as recommended, there are no hygiene concerns: the powder that comes into contact with the bristles also sticks to them. In addition, bacteria have no chance of surviving in the toothpowder environment – it is water-free, contains essential oils and is alkaline. An independent German laboratory has confirmed its hygienic safety through microbiological testing. If you'd still rather be on the safe side: simply treat every family member or flatmate to their own jar. 💚

What makes Sensitive special?
Sensitive is our mildest toothpowder: completely free of essential oils and particularly mild in taste – no burning, no foam. It's perfect for anyone with especially sensitive mucous membranes, anyone who reacts to essential oils, during pregnancy, or for everyone who simply likes it extra mild.
The ingredients: Rügen healing chalk, birch sugar, hydroxyapatite, baking soda and organic coconut oil. One storage jar replaces 4–5 tubes of toothpaste.
How does it make teeth whiter?
teethlovers organic toothpowder whitens your teeth in two ways:
- Quickly visible whitening
Gentle, natural cleaning agents such as Rügen healing chalk and baking soda remove surface stains from coffee, tea, red wine & co. – without any aggressive abrasives. This brings out the natural white of your teeth.
- Long-term whitening
Hydroxyapatite strengthens and remineralises the tooth enamel. A smoother tooth surface reflects more light – your teeth look brighter and healthier. This effect builds up over time and keeps your teeth white in the long run.
For naturally white and healthy teeth – powered by nature! 🌱
Why doesn't the powder foam?
teethlovers organic toothpowder doesn't foam in your mouth … no matter how long you brush.
Instead, it stimulates saliva production and turns into an emulsion that spreads throughout your whole mouth. Because saliva is the body's own best remedy for healthy teeth and strong enamel, the unfamiliar brushing feeling is worth it at first. It disappears after a short adjustment period.
Foaming tooth cleaners contain surfactants, which make sense in a washing machine but have no place in your mouth. Because foaming agents can additionally irritate sensitive oral mucous membranes and thus promote inflammation, it's worth replacing old habits with healthier routines.
With teethlovers, you let your saliva do its job: buffering acids, cleaning teeth, regenerating the pellicle and remineralising the enamel. Still foaming or already smiling? 😁
What is the RDA value of the toothpowder?
The RDA value ("Relative Dentin Abrasivity") shows how much a tooth cleaner mechanically wears down the tooth surface. The lower the value, the gentler the cleaning:
- RDA < 70 → low abrasive (recommended for sensitive teeth)
- RDA 70–120 → medium abrasive
- RDA > 120 → highly abrasive
Our toothpowder contains finely ground Rügen healing chalk (< 40 µm) as its main ingredient. Its abrasiveness is therefore around RDA 30 – particularly gentle.
How long does my toothpowder last?
Our toothpowders have no best-before date. As they contain volatile essential oils, the aroma can fade over time and each time the jar is opened. We therefore recommend using up the storage jar within 9 months. After opening, it's best to transfer the powder from the refill bag into the storage jar – this keeps it airtight and protects the aroma.
Can children use the toothpowder?
Yes! Our Mandarin-Vanilla-Chamomile flavour is particularly mild and was developed especially for children. From the age of 6, our other flavours are suitable too – only Lemongrass-Rosemary-Thyme is less suitable for children because of its herbal sharpness. Children should use the powder under adult supervision.
Can I use the toothpowder during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Pregnancy: All flavours can be used during pregnancy. If you're more sensitive to smells or essential oils during this time, our Sensitive toothpowder without essential oils is ideal for you.
Breastfeeding: According to current evidence, there are no clinical human studies showing that the usual oral consumption of peppermint tea or the low systemic exposure from toothpaste or toothpowder containing peppermint oil reliably reduces milk production. Topical peppermint preparations have only been studied in breastfeeding women for the treatment/prevention of nipple fissures; an effect on milk volume was not recorded as an endpoint. Mechanistic cell/mouse data show a possible inhibition of milk production at experimentally high doses, but cannot be directly transferred to normal use. Based on this data, we consider our peppermint toothpowder compatible with breastfeeding and do not issue a warning. Safety note: do not apply products on or near the infant's face.
Can I use the toothpowder during homeopathic treatment?
Yes, these flavours are also suitable during homeopathic treatment:
- Sensitive
- Lemon-Ginger-Turmeric
- Lemongrass-Rosemary-Thyme
- Mandarin-Vanilla-Chamomile
Only Peppermint-Lemon contains menthol and is therefore less recommended during homeopathic treatment.
Dental Care Drops
9 articlesHow do the dental care drops work?
Our drops are a practical addition to your daily oral care on the go. While you suck on them:
- saliva flow is stimulated,
- the oral flora is supported,
- the formation of new plaque is reduced,
- the remineralisation of tooth enamel is promoted
- and your breath is freshened.
The drops don't replace brushing your teeth, but complement your daily dental care.
How do I use the drops?
Suck the drop in your mouth. This creates a fine emulsion that you gently rinse between your teeth with your tongue so that it also reaches the spaces between your teeth. Then enjoy your fresh breath ✨
Can I swallow the drops? Yes. The drops are made from food-grade ingredients – you can safely swallow them or spit them out. Please have a maximum of 3 drops per day.
What's in the drops?
Our drops consist of 100% active ingredients and contain no GMOs, fluoride, synthetic additives or animal ingredients. They are vegan and cruelty-free. 🌱
- Xylitol (birch sugar) helps reduce bacteria that cause tooth decay.
- Hydroxyapatite is the natural main component of our teeth and supports the remineralisation of tooth enamel.
- Zinc citrate contributes to a balanced oral flora.
- Essential oils provide freshness or a fruity taste, depending on the flavour.
Example Fresh Mint: Xylitol, Hydroxyapatite, Mentha Piperita Oil (organic), Zinc Citrate, Calcium Carbonate, Limonene, Linalool.
Can the drops replace brushing my teeth?
No. 🙂 The drops support your oral hygiene on the go, but don't replace your toothbrush or dental floss. For healthy teeth, we still recommend regular mechanical cleaning.
Why are the drops so big?
The size was chosen on purpose: this way, the drops stay in your mouth for about 6 to 8 minutes, giving the ingredients enough time to work. ✨
How much zinc is in the drops?
One drop contains approx. 2.6 mg zinc. As part of it is swallowed while sucking, we recommend the following daily amounts:
- Adults and children aged 6 and over: max. 3 drops per day (approx. 8 mg zinc)
- Children aged 4 to 6: max. 1 drop per day (approx. 2.6 mg zinc)
I already take a zinc supplement – is that okay? Generally yes. But keep an eye on your total zinc intake – zinc is also found in foods such as wholegrain products, nuts or cheese. The EFSA specifies the following tolerable upper intake levels per day from all sources combined: 25 mg for adults, 10 mg for children aged 4 to 6. If you're unsure, it's best to ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Do the drops whiten teeth?
The drops help prevent discolouration from coffee or certain foods from forming in the first place. They remove plaque and supply your saliva with minerals that remineralise the tooth enamel. This keeps your enamel naturally white. 🦷
Do the drops help with bad breath?
Yes! 🌱 Above all, the zinc citrate supports a healthy balance of the oral flora, while the plant extracts provide fresh breath.
Are the drops suitable for children?
Yes. 😊 Fresh Mint is suitable from the age of 6 as it contains menthol. Fruity Orange and Watermelon can also be used by younger children. For children aged 4 to 6: max. 1 drop per day. 🧡

Oral Biotics is a food supplement without a fixed minimum age. For children, we recommend consulting a (paediatric) doctor before use. 💚
Can I use Oral Biotics during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, please talk to your doctor before use. This also applies if you take medication regularly.
Who is it suitable for?
3 articlesI have exposed tooth necks and sensitive teeth – can I use the toothpowder?
Yes. Our toothpowder supports healthy gums and, thanks to its particularly gentle cleaning agents, is also kind to sensitive, exposed tooth necks. With an RDA value below 30, it cleans extremely gently without irritating the enamel or gums.
Tip: Put the dry powder directly into your mouth before brushing and spread it briefly with your tongue. This way it mixes with your saliva to form a gentle emulsion. If your mouth is very sensitive, we recommend our Sensitive toothpowder without essential oils.
Can I use the toothpowder if I have periodontitis?
Our toothpowders are ideal for daily tooth cleaning – especially for people with sensitive gums or inflammation in the mouth. This is due to three key properties:
- Highly effective plant extracts with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties support a healthy oral environment.
- On contact with saliva, the alkaline powder dissolves into a gentle emulsion, ensuring thorough yet gentle cleaning – without friction or irritation.
- We completely avoid surfactants and foaming agents that could put additional strain on the gums – because foam really has no place in your mouth.
For healthy gums. And a good feeling.
Can I use the products with crowns, bridges or implants?
Toothpowder: Yes. With a very low RDA value (below 30), it is particularly gentle. As it has a fine powder consistency, we recommend rinsing thoroughly after brushing if you have crowns, bridges or other dental restorations. This removes any possible residue. 🦷
Drops: Yes. They dissolve in your mouth and are distributed without mechanical friction – no problem with implants either. 💪
Common Questions About Ingredients
6 articlesWhy hydroxyapatite?
We work on the basis of biological dentistry and base our formula on the study results on hydroxyapatite (HAP). Tooth enamel naturally consists of over 97% HAP, and studies have shown that HAP protects tooth enamel in dental care just as effectively as, or even more effectively than, fluorides. That's why we prefer to rely on an ingredient that is natural to the body rather than using a neurotoxin like fluoride. Unfortunately, HAP is a much more expensive raw material in the cosmetics industry than fluoride, which is mostly categorised as a waste product, so not many companies have yet considered the switch profitable. According to holistic dentistry, switching to HAP is recommended for your health.
Why fluoride-free?
Fluoride has been the standard active ingredient in conventional toothpaste for decades – and its caries-preventive effect is proven. At the same time, the systemic absorption of fluoride, especially with regular use, is increasingly being critically discussed. That's why we have consciously chosen a different path.
Our approach is based on hydroxyapatite (HAP) – the mineral that ~97% of human tooth enamel itself consists of. Biomimetic HAP can be incorporated directly into the enamel surface and remineralise micro-defects. In independent clinical studies, HAP was just as effective as fluoride in preventing tooth decay:
- Butera et al. (2022, University of Pavia): HAP was equivalent to fluoride in remineralising early enamel lesions → Read study
- Cocco et al. (2025, Universities of Bern / Mainz / Sassari): in a triple-blind RCT with 610 children, HAP outperformed standard fluoride toothpaste → Read study
- Florea et al. (2023, University of Cluj-Napoca): direct incorporation of HAP particles into human tooth enamel demonstrated → Read study
In addition, teethlovers protects against tooth decay through:
- thorough and gentle removal of plaque, the food source of caries bacteria
- neutralisation of acids thanks to the alkaline properties of the powder
- inhibition of bacterial metabolism by birch sugar (xylitol)
- stimulation of saliva flow and the resulting natural remineralisation
- support of pellicle regeneration (the natural protective film on teeth)
Does turmeric turn teeth yellow?
Every teethlovers organic toothpowder variety you can buy removes plaque thoroughly when used correctly and brings out the natural white of your teeth. In our Lemon-Ginger-Turmeric toothpowder, we use an organic turmeric extract that is free of yellow-staining curcuminoids. Instead, our organic turmeric extract contains xanthorrhizol. Xanthorrhizol can eradicate the caries trigger Streptococcus mutans within a few minutes. It also has an antibacterial effect against Actinomyces viscosus and Porphyromonas gingivalis, which cause periodontitis.
Is baking soda bad for tooth enamel?
No. Baking soda is one of the least abrasive agents used in dental care. Using pure baking soda as a tooth cleaner has a different effect than in our powders, which consist of several ingredients. We only use a small proportion of baking soda: it gently removes discolouration, neutralises acids and thus supports a healthy oral environment.
Is the lemon in the toothpowder harmful because of the acid?
Lemon essential oil has an antibacterial effect and can help reduce caries bacteria. Lemon oil contains no citric acid and does not attack tooth enamel. In toothpowder, it provides natural freshness and supports oral hygiene. The essential compounds it contains, such as limonene, can have an anti-inflammatory effect. This makes lemon oil a gentle and effective addition to natural dental care.
Is calcium carbonate harmful with daily use?
No. Rügen healing chalk (calcium carbonate) cleans gently yet effectively without attacking the enamel. It removes plaque mechanically, supports remineralisation thanks to its high calcium content and helps stabilise the pH in the mouth, neutralising acids and preventing tooth decay.
